Revving Up The Road to New England
Fort Lauderdale traveled up to New England for a Week 2 Rematch
What's up, La Familia??
We are going to take a look at FTLCFs match against Revs II as well as a look at two key players as we reach the quarter way mark of our seasons.
How about a Revolution?
Fort Lauderdale CF is lamenting missed opportunities in a tight 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution II squad at Gillette Stadium. This trip was not the best our men could get as Fort Lauderdale rued missed shots compounded by poor passing and a lack of fluid link up play.
The first few minutes were more scrappy that a street brawl as the ref struggled to keep a lid on the match. Unbelieveably, there was a total of seven fouls in the opening fifteen minutes. The death blow came early after a free kick was swung in by Revs II and knocked home by Pierre Cayet.
Fort Lauderdale has a chance for redemption as Caputo made a poorly timed challenged which resulted in a penalty. Shaan Hundal stood over the ball looking for his league high tying 5th goal on the season. This would have to wait as the Revs II keeper Earl Edwards Jr guessed right and expertly saved the pen (David de Gea take some notes). While there were other chances on the night, this was the squads best opportunity to seize the day.
With the loss, Fort Lauderdale sits in 3rd place in the league but don’t get too excited. FTLCF has played 8 games while all other teams have only played between 3 and 5 games. The other scary fact is that we either take all three points or lose all three. The squad has yet to draw a game which has left numerous points on the table. With that being said, the goal differential on the season is -1 which shows they have been in the majority of the games. This season, much like last, could be completely different with one or two more goals in key spots.
Key points:
Captain Fantastic Continues To Impress
Yes, Than coined the nickname for Ethan
No, we don’t know if he knows
What we do know is that FTLCF’s Captain Fantastic, Ethan Hardin, continued to lead the best way he knows how. We have constantly touched on the beauty of his work in terms of distribution (He is still leading the league in passing) but he also forces defenses to play away from him. For the majority of the match, the combo of Hardin and Allen saw the ball going away from them. This was a subtle nod of respect to the play of both Hardin and Allen but more so of Hardin. You could have mistaken Hardin’s mark as his iPhone but Hardin had him in his pocket all night. Speaking of Allen….
Noah Allen: Man on Fire
Noah Allen has not skipped a beat since the beginning of the season. Noah patrols the left side of the field with authority and has proven to be an integral part to the FTLCF squad. He can play defense with the best of them but also provides key passing and crosses to the attackers. As previously mentioned, his ability to work well with Hardin effectively shuts down 50% of the field which forces opponents into game planning around them. We look forward to seeing what he brings to the table going forward.
